'Tis the Season for Financial Crimes Against Seniors

Not everyone is full of goodwill during the holidays. Unfortunately, the holidays are a prime time for financial crimes like identity theft, robbery and fraud -- and seniors are often the target."Consumers are reminded to shred, sign up, suppress and be sensitive," says Steve J. Bernas, President/CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Northern Illinois. To safeguard against financial crimes this holiday season the Chicago Better Business Bureau offers these timely tips for seniors and those who care for them:-- Hang on to your personal information. Do not give any personal information over the phone or Internet to an unfamiliar company or caller. This includes your credit card numbers, but also the credit card expiration date, your Social Security number, driver's license number, bank account numbers, and personal information, such as your mother's maiden name.

Watchdog warns of phone scam

Consumers are being conned over the phone by fraudsters claiming to be calling from Consumer Direct.

The callers pretend they are carrying out a survey on behalf of the Government-funded consumer advice organisation and ask their victims for personal and financial information.

However, Consumer Direct said the callers have no connection with it, and their intention may be to use the information for identity theft, to run up bills or commit crimes using stolen details.

Consumer Direct said although it does carry out surveys in order to monitor its performance, it will always write first so that the call is expected. The consumer watchdog said it also would never ask people for financial or personal information and warned people that they should never pass on these kind of details to any cold callers either over the phone or via email.

Wi-Fi piggybacking rife in the UK

Over half of UK internet users have admitted using other people's Wi-Fi networks to piggyback onto the internet.

A recent survey by security firm Sophos found that 54 per cent of respondents had used someone else's wireless internet access without permission.

Many internet-enabled homes fail properly to secure their wireless connection with passwords and encryption, allowing passers-by and neighbours to 'steal' their internet access.

Although most businesses have security measures in place to protect their Wi-Fi networks, Sophos warned that remote users working from home could prove a weak link in corporate defences.

"Stealing Wi-Fi internet access may feel like a victimless crime, but it deprives ISPs of revenue," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos.

Disaster Capitalism and its Shock Doctrine-- making Nazism seem tame

The main story Klein tells is that the US has helped dictators, in dozens of nations, to create chaos and confusion using military coups, torture, mass killings and horrific repression of free speech and protest. They use these criminal actions to: -take over a country,-drastically reduce government services,-reduce or eliminate laws and regulations that regulate corporations,-take national resources that belong to the people and sell them off, privatizing them, to corporations-- things like water, forests, schools, roads, armies-destroy the middle class to take away their power. They do these things to implement Milton Friedman's free trade, globalist theories as taught and promoted by the University of Chicago School of Economics. Friedman and his acolytes would consult with the worst of the torturing, murdering dictators, encouraging them to go ever further in destroying the middle class, in eliminating protections against corporate abuse.
