| Protecting your identity is a smart thing to do
D ecember is Identity Theft Prevention and Awareness Month. According to the February 2007 Identity Fraud Survey Report issued by Javelin Strategy & Research, identity theft affected approximately 8.4 million people. The estimated loss to business and individual victims was $43.9 billion. Often, ID theft victims don't even realize their identity was stolen. They may find out when a creditor or collection agency calls or a credit card is declined. To help consumers protect their identity, a number of credit monitoring and insurance protection programs are available. But, are these products right for you? Most experts recommend that you obtain a copy of your credit report at least once a year from each of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) to ensure accuracy and to look for signs of ID theft.

He also asked website readers to email him with any research or data they had which supported the view that the scientific establishment is itself biased against climate sceptics. He got a lot of feedback (though not as much as he expected) and it's taken him more or less until now to sort through it. You can see the results here and in a series of articles this week by Richard and others on the website science pages. They do a great deal to shed light on the arguments and investigate the evidence behind them. We wanted to give them proper consideration, in part to counter accusations that we simply ignore the sceptics' views. But this also raises issues about how much weight, over time, we should give to their views, and what impartiality means on an issue like this.
Is The Golden Compass pointing away from God?
You pay a subscription to your cable provider, and there are warnings at the start of a show. But then the movies is censored. Nobody can say swear words, and now they even take out the phrase 'God' whenever someone curses. Let people be people and let the individul decide what he or she wants to censor. Schools accused of complacency over anti-gay bullying
SCHOOLS have been urged to do more to combat homophobic bullying after a study revealed it was rife in classrooms across the country. The Scottish Executive report found that "anti-homophobia is not seen as a priority by many schools", despite ministers' attempts to encourage equality and fight prejudice. .
Good news and bad for SNP: He's popular - but independence isn't
The Scottish Centre for Social Research, which compiled the data, said the results showed that the SNP did not secure victory on the back of a rising tide of support for independence. Rather, it won because it was more successful than ever at getting its vote out and due to the popularity of its leader. Professor John Curtice, a research consultant for the centre, said: "The SNP's victory in May was a success for the party rather than the cause of independence. "It had a popular leader and tapped a feeling that Holyrood should put Scotland, rather than partnership with London, first. This enabled the party to win the votes of those who already backed independence rather than win new converts to the independence cause." The results represent a mixed blessing for Mr Salmond.
Venturing into the Dallas jungle in search of the elusive $30,000 ...
The lawsuit brought an award of $156 million to the parents of the teenaged terror victim, David Boim. Does anyone seriously think that the prosecution did not present strong enough evidence for conviction in the criminal case, but in the civil casewith less evidence than the government possessedthe civil attorneys did convince jurors of the connection between HLF and Hamas? Some are pointing to old evidence as the reason prosecutors were unable to convince the jury to convict in the HLF case. 8 What no one seems to be talking about is why it took so long to make the evidence public and to bring HLF to trial. If the 14-year wait between detection and prosecution is a factor, then the failure is with the Clinton administration to act on solid intelligence from the Israelisintelligence the FBI was able to confirm independently within a few months.
State governments must discharge their constitutional responsibility
He led the country in 10 Tests, but lost the captaincy in 1989 following a controversial tour of the US to play some festival matches. At the time of his retirement in 1992, he was second only to Gavaskar in runs and centuries scored in Tests. In his retired life, Vengsarkar started Elf-Academy in 1995 and became Vice-President for the Mumbai Cricket Association in 2003. Though he was the front runner for the post of the Chairman, Selection Committee, he opted out because of his policy against zonal representation. He, however, accepted the job of the Chairman of selectors of the BCCI in September 2006. Dilip was made Chairman of the Talent Resource Development Wing when it was created in 2002 to find cricket talents within the country. In spite of having loopholes in the team selection process, the TRDW through an objective assessment system, recommended some indubitable talent that had then made it into the Indian team.
Q and A with Mikhail Gorbachev
How do you view the latest developments of relations between Russia and the West? You said recently that you see the US plan to deploy a missile defense shield in Central Europe as targeting Russia, not Iran, as the United States claims. Do you see your achievements in ending the Cold War being depleted? GORBACHEV: What we see is the beginning of a new arms race. The United States has a super-large military budget; its military budget is even larger than it was during the Cold War. IDEAS: What about your comment regarding the true purpose of the proposed missile defense shield? GORBACHEV: There is truth in this. It's too early to talk about Cold War, but I think we are seeing some frost. IDEAS: You have criticized the arrest, during Russia's parliamentary election campaign, of opposition leader Garry Kasparov, the crackdown on freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.
