Nov 20 -- Breach Security Inc., a provider of web application firewalls, announced Monday that the Breach Security WebDefend web application firewall has earned certification by ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon. WebDefend is one of the first web application firewall products to achieve this distinction, Breach Security said. Salmond: Scotland independent in 10 years
ALEX Salmond has, for the first time, named a date by which he believes Scotland will be an independent country - 2017. The First Minister made the dramatic assertion on the eve of the SNP's first budget in government, a day in which the party will set out its spending priorities over the next three years. In a remarkable departure from his previous reluctance to set a timetable for achieving sovereignty, Mr Salmond yesterday said he anticipated Scotland would break away from the United Kingdom in a decade. The First Minister made the declaration, which was immediately attacked by political opponents, as he launched the Scottish Government's economic strategy, setting out ambitious targets for a decade of growth. .
Why Data Security for Non-Production Computer Systems Is Important
Most business enterprises are well aware of the need to protect their production computers from unauthorized access. Data security procedures are now routinely required by governmental regulation, such as Sarbanes-Oxley or HIPAA, or by industry self-regulation, such as through the PCI Security Standards Council. Even with such requirements, reports of data breaches are regularly reported in the press, exposing businesses to fallout ranging from unwanted media attention as the most basic response to potential legal exposure and costs as the most severe. While the industry has moved to deal with the most egregious aspects of data theft, many computer systems still remain vulnerable to attack at some level. But there is yet another tier of computer data that remains practically untouched and unprotected by today's new data security procedures – non-production systems used for in-house development, testing and training purposes.
Consumers apathetic about online security
Computer users are still demonstrating widespread indifference to measures designed to prevent malware infections. A survey by PC Tools found that 80 per cent of respondents had been hit by an online attack despite claiming a high level of awareness of online security and the requisite security products. Nearly all respondents were aware of the threats posed by social networking sites, spam emails, viruses and spyware, but half admitted that they continue to download and share files regardless. "PC Tools' website visitors are aware and, in most cases, well informed of the risks," said Simon Clausen, chief executive at PC Tools. "But the survey suggests that we can expect a significantly greater problem among the general public who continue to expose themselves to financial loss and identity theft." PC Tools believes that the industry must approach computer security and cyber-crime from an educational perspective, but warned that consumers need to want to be educated.
